Influenster Twinkle Vox Box

I recently got the Influenster Twinkle Vox Box. This box had a variety of brands and items for me to try.

Hills Bros. Hot Cocoa K Cups – I have never heard of this brand before, normally getting Swiss Miss or Abuelita brand hot chocolate. I also don’t think I have ever used hot chocolate k cups before. I got a milk and dark chocolate flavor. I have yet to try these, but they will get used!

Reynolds Slow Cooker Liners – This is not a very exciting item but it is useful. We haven’t used our crock pot in ages but it’s possible we will break it out again to test these out.

Covergirl So Lashy! Mascara – Woo hoo for beauty items! This has a very interesting brush which I have never seen before. It looks like it will really separate your lashes. I’m still working through a few tubes of mascara but I generally like the Covergirl brand and will use this.

Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo Unscented – I you have read my post on dry shampoo, then you know that this is my favorite affordable brand. I love having this travel can for trips. I prefer the scented version because it smells so fresh and good, but I can’t complain about this. I love it because there is no white residue and it really leaves me feeling fresh and not oily.

Aquation Daily Moisturizing Lotion – I have never heard of this brand before but it seems comparable to CeraVe or Nivea. This is one of the only full size products in the box (I wish it had been the dry shampoo) and I can’t say I’m all that excited about it. I don’t use lotion a lot but when I do I have lots of bottles of Bath and Body Works scented options. I don’t have sensitive skin so unscented isn’t really necessary. I gave it a try though and found that it was almost a gel consistency and gave an adequate amount of moisture without being greasy.

Oreo Thins – I was hoping this wouldn’t be a travel pack! I like Oreos but never buy them and have always wanted to try the Thins. You get the same great taste but with less calories! What could be better?

Axe White Label Body Wash – There was also a travel body wash included but my husbad grabbed it before I could snap a picture to take it on a recent trip. That’s a brand we already use we knew what to expect. It would have been great to get full size, but travel was good too.

Overall this is a great mix of brands I know and new ones to try. It was mainly very practical items that will all get used in the future. I love getting to try new products through Influenster for free!

Recently I realized that Influenster sent me over $75 worth of product back in June and I never blogged about it! Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf has been one of my favorite perfumes for a while but I’ve never owned it – just tried samples I think. The fragrance notes are: Sambac Jasmine, Centifolia Rose, Cattleya Orchid, Ballerina Freesia, Patchouli. I think I normally don’t like a straight patchouli scent but it smells like there’s some vanilla mixed in. It’s a beautifully floral scent that’s a little dark – not light bright.

A few months ago they released this fragrance oil that you can layer with your perfume to make it last longer. Influenster sent a full size of it (worth $75!!!) and a small dabber bottle of perfume. At the time I didn’t even realize the value, but I decided to use this the other day and a coworker commented on how good I smelled and said she could tell it was Flowerbomb. She said she used to work in fragrance and knew it was pricey. I looked it up on Sephora and sure enough it is! The oil comes with a dropper to help distribute just a little bit. This really is the best product I have gotten to try through Influenster. I have recently seen them working with some very high end beauty brands like Becca, Bite Beauty and Burberry. I would love to get some of those boxes. If I start blogging again, maybe I will!

February 2016 Play! by Sephora

Play! by Sephora is a monthly sub box for $10! You get a fragrance sample and 5 deluxe beauty samples which I think is a great value. I believe they have recently opened up more subscriptions so sign up!

They always include an awesome booklet about how to use the products.

Tom Ford Black Orchid – This is a really pricey perfume – the rollerball is $45! I think I know why though: the main fragrance note is an uber rare and custom grown black orchid. Other notes include Black Truffle, Black Plum, Noir Gourmand Accord, Patchouli. It’s a dark, woodsy, and fruity scent that isn’t entirely my style but is still nice.

Lancome Drama Liqui-Pencil Longwear Eyeliner – This is your basic black eyeliner but from a high end brand. It’s supposed to have the high intensity of a liquid liner – I won’t go that far but it is creamy.

Bumble and Bumble Pret-A-Powder – If you read my recent Sephora dry shampoo review then you know how I feel about this. I would much prefer a spray version so I might put this up for swaps. It’s also SO pricey.

Bare Minerals Pop of Passion Lip Oil-Balm – in Plumberry Pop. I was really excited to try this and the first time I did it was great. It is a nice color and really stays put. The next time I tried it however it balled up a little bit and made it hard to get an even coat.

Make Up Forever Rouge Artist Natural Lipstick – in N9 Copper Pink Satin. Yay for two lip products in one box! This is a really natural and neutral pink that really glides on. No problems, it’s a solid lipstick but not as fun to use as Bite!

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara – I’ve tried this mascara multiple times and it’s a great one! Really happy to see it in the box!

Play! still continues to impress me with high end brands and generous size samples! It keeps me looking forward to seeing what I get each month!

Sephora Hauls

Sephora during the holiday season always has great gifts with purchases. Back in November they had my favorite GWP which is a makeup bag full of samples. You got to pick from four options and it was a great mix of items and brands. I decided to place an order to make use of a giftcard and to get the GWP!

Some of my favorite items included the Nars Audacious Mascara, Stella Stella McCartney perfume (which I just ordered), and the Glamglow Thirstycleanse Daily Hydrating Cleanser (which I have also since purchased the travel size). So there were some real winners here!

This is the Dr. Jart BB It’s Cold Outside set. I picked it because I needed a backup foundation and I have sampled this BB cream before from Birchbox and really enjoyed the coverage and SPF it has. The kit (no longer available) includes the Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45 , Firming Sleeping Mask (which I can’t find on Sephora), Ceramidin Cream and Dermaclear Micro Water. The cream was new to me and is made with ceramides which help retain water. It does not have SPF so I have used it a few times at night. It’s nothing super special to me but it does moisturize. The Micro Water I have gotten a sample of before in Birchbox I think and I haven’t come around to the idea of cleansing my whole face with it, but it works well as an eye makeup remover. The Firming Sleeping Mask I have used a few times and the instructions say you are to put it on about 10 mins before bed and to wash it off in the morning. It has a gel/serum like consistency. Overall I liked this set because it is the same price as a full tube of the BB cream but you get extra stuff!

This was a random thing I added on to get free shipping and it turned out to be really good! This is an oil in gel lipstick remover by the Sephora brand which I am not seeing on their website now. Bummer. You put it on, wait about 10 seconds, wipe it off with a tissue and BAM your lips are clean. It works with lipstick and liquid lipstick really well, but not as good with stains.

These were my free sample add ons!

This was the next GWP that I was drooling over. I LOVE this stuff! Benefit Gimme Brow

is my go to for just a little more definition, color and a groomed look. It’s for when I’m too lazy to use pencil to fill my brows in (basically every day) or want a more “natural” look. It’s a mini so it didn’t last long but was totally worth it.

So this is where the real fun happens – a whole set of DRY SHAMPOOS! This is the Extend Your Style kit (no longer available) and has 7 shampoos to keep you clean in between washes.

First up (from left to right) is my personal favorite of the bunch and one I have sampled before thanks to Birchbox. Amika Perk Up is really one of the best I have tried. The packaging is a colorful swirling print that makes me happy, and it smells amazing! It has natural rice starch to absorb oil without weighing you down. This really works and does not leave me greasy or with residue.I would for sure order more. *Note all of these are on the pricey side and would be a supplement to my go to drug store pick*

Next up is Alterna Haircare Cleanse Extend which has a mango coconut scent. I thought I would really love this one for that reason but it wasn’t in my top 3. I agree that it’s translucent but it is a little sickly sweet and has a slight greasy feel for me.

Living Proof is a brand that I have tried several of their products before including somehow their dry shampoo. Their Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo is in my top 3 – it has their signature scent which is hard to describe but is slightly floral. It has no residue, is free of sulfates and parabens (if that matters to you), and leaves my hair feeling really clean. *Note I just sprayed this on my husbands head so he could feel the intense sensation of dry shampoo and how great it is and he said “I never have to shower now.” Yeah me neither*

If you don’t know about the Drybar then you are missing out. I have been a total of three times and each as been great and I have left the salon with the best looking and smelling hair. The Detox Dry Shampoo was created to extend your blowout and is in my top three mainly because of the scent. It comes out a little chalky (they made a separate one for brunettes that’s how you can tell!) but I just rub it in or brush it out. The smell puts it in my top three though – it’s addicting like delicious cupcakes!!!

Sally Hershberger is a brand I am not as familiar with. Their 24k Supreme Stylist Dry Shampoo is supposed to be voluminous but I just find it to be sticky and leave my hair feeling a little greasy. Nothing great about the scent either. It has low stars on Sephora so I know I’m not the only one!

Klorane is a brand I am familiar with thanks to BB and I have actually gotten this as a sample before and am using their shampoo and conditioner now (review to come later). A lot of people really like this Dry Shampoo with Oak Milk but I am not one of them. It’s not too greasy but does leave a white residue that I have to rub in. I don’t love the scent either – it’s light but just not my fave. I’ll use it up but I won’t buy more.

Lastly we have Bumble and Bumble’s Pret-A-Powder which I was really interested in trying out because B and B is a super prestige brand (I have some of their hairspray and really like it). I have never used baby powder as dry shampoo so this was hard for me to get used to. I found it difficult to get an even coating and to get rid of all my oil. It has a soft powdery scent and does add volume but the application is just too difficult for me. I would rather spray and go! It still gets a lot of good reviews so maybe I just need to give it a few more tries.

There you have it – one of the most in depth dry shampoo reviews you will ever read! Thanks for sticking it out till the end, and if you have questions leave them in the comments!

November Play! by Sephora

Play! by Sephora is only $10 and apparently not open to everybody yet. I live in Dallas and somehow was able to get on the list! So far it has been a great mix of brands and nice sample sizes. I have gotten a perfume each time so you should expect that. The November box was a great one for me!

In each box you get a really in depth booklet that details each product and also has beauty tips.

Stella by Stella McCartney – I was so excited to get this because it is one of my favorite scents. I think I had a little bottle of this back in high school, then I forgot about it and rediscovered it again. The main note is English rose because Stella, the designer, is from England. The other notes include Peony Flower, Mandarin, Rose Absolute, and Amber. It’s a really bold and dark floral which I love – very different than other floral fragrances. I really can’t get enough and will have to buy more someday!

Make Up Forever Hydrating Primer – This is a primer for normal skin to moisturize and balance skin. A primer is not really something I see as necessary but I did enjoy using this one. It does not feel plasticy or like I have a coating on my face. This primer sank into my skin and made it feel great.

Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12hr Wear Waterproof – This is an electric blue color which I wouldn’t wear everyday but it’s fun to try out sometimes! This is a nice normal pencil that did stay on very well. In middle school I loved to wear a jade green liner only on my bottom lash line EVERY DAY. What was I thinking?!? I know better now that it’s all about moderation.

Josie Maran 100 Percent Pure Argan Oil – I’m not that into oils but apparently this one is the bomb. It can be used on hair, skin and nails. I have only used it on my skin and it’s pretty thick. There’s a lot of interesting info on the Sephora site about this product including this: “Pure Argan Oil is first cold pressed to ensure the best quality, highest-grade oil. It is housed in a recyclable glass bottle and purchased from women’s cooperatives in Morocco to support their social and economic welfare. These cooperatives work within a UNESCO biosphere reserve that ensures the protection and reforestation of Argan trees. ” It’s FANCY oil! It has vitamin E and fatty acids to hydrate skin. I’ve only used it a few times, but I think I will need to step it up.

Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil – Y’all this is where it gets good! Bite is one of my favorite lip brands, but I don’t have many of their products. The color, Rhubarb, is amazing! It is a gorgeous plum rose that looks neutral yet adds a great pop of color. It stays on really well and provides high pigment (like the name says). I want to buy so many more of the colors! What I love about Bite is all their products contain reservatrol which is an antioxidant to fight aging, and the ingredients are food grade (because it’s going on your lips)! They all smell really good too – nice and fruity.

Buxom Full-On Lip Cream – This gets good reviews but I’m just not that into the plumping effect. Dolly is a mauve color but I find that it is practically clear. It’s all gloss with no shimmer and I guess I like a little shimmer. It feels weird and a little sticky on my lips. I was hoping to love this one but I just didn’t.

Overall this was a great box if only for the Stella perfume and Bite lip pencil! Those are stand out products that I would buy more of. What are you loving lately?

October Play! by Sephora

This is my very first Play by Sephora box and it is amazing! The theme was skincare which I love to try out. I’m very impressed with the amount of samples and the quality for only $10. The packaging was also very nice.

They included a very nice booklet spotlighting each product with tips on how to use them.

Sephora Pearl Mask -This is a full size item and a nice inclusion. I’ve only used one sheet mask before and it wasn’t my favorite experience but I’ll still give this one a try. According to the website the pearl version ” Perfects and brightens with natural-origin pearl to create high luminosity. “

Fresh Black Tea Toner – I love the Fresh brand for their lip products but I haven’t tried any face products. I love the packaging first off – the bottle is so cute and made of glass. This feels really nice going on my skin. This is supposed “to provide 24 hours of moisture and significant protection from environmental stressors while evening skintone and refining skin texture. ” I like that it has interesting ingredients such as black tea, blackberry leaf extract, rosewater, and lychee seed extract. It’s very expensive at $48 a bottle – twice what I would normally pay. So it was fun to try but I will not be purchasing.

Atelier Cologne Collection Azur Mandarine Glaciale – This is a citrusy fresh fragrance with notes of mandarin, ginger and veviter. Apparently this scent is exclusive to Sephora. I’ve read that all the scents by this brand are unisex…so unfortunately this scent is not for me. I like more flowery smells.

belief The True Cream Moisturizing Bomb – This is a Korean made product which is very popular in beauty circles right now. It is sort of gel like and absorbs very well with no fragrance. I picked up this interesting info from the website “This dermatologist tested product is free of mineral oil, petrolatum, synthetic preservatives, dyes, and fragrances, and animal origin ingredients. The True Cream Moisturizing Bomb was the number one selling product in Korea’s highly competitive selective beauty market across all categories. “

Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Day Tint SPF 15 – Dr. Jart+ is one of the more well known Korean skin care brands and I have used a few of their products before, but not this one. This is a multitasking products that tones, moisturizes, and provides blemish coverage. You can use it alone or under BB cream. It only comes in one color and it is too dark for me. I don’t see this need for this under my current makeup. In case you’re wondering what Ceramides are “Ceramides are essential lipids found in the surface layer of the skin that help maintain the integrity of the skin and retain moisture.”

boscia Detoxifyinh Black Cleanser – This is a gel cleanser that warms on contact and is black! It de-clogs pores, and dissolves oil and makeup. I think it’s a solid cleanser!

boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge with Bamboo Charcoal – This is an accompanying product to use with the cleanser. It’s hard to tell from the description but I don’t think you would use this on it’s own – only with a cleanser. You wet is and scrub it around and it is supposed to help with exfoliation and drawing out impurities. I found this sample to be a little too small to use easily. It also seems like something I don’t need. It was fun to try though.

Overall this was a great first box and I can’t wait to see more from Sephora. I just wish you earned Beauty Insider points for subscribing to these.

Sephora Haul

I recently bought a few things from Sephora to take advantage of a weekly deal they were running where you got a free perfume mini with purchase – lately I have really been into perfume samples and my favorite brand was featured to I went for it. I also used a $25 giftcard I got through Shopkick. If you don’t use Shopkick you should! It’s and app and it is very easy to earn “kicks” just by going through lookbooks on the app, walking into stores (many I already shop at), and by scanning items. This is my third $25 Spehora giftcard I have redeemed. There are many other giftcard choices – my mom always gets Starbucks. Anyway enough about that – let’s talk about what I got.

photo 1-80

Caudalie Favorites Set – This has been on my Sephora and Birchbox wishlist for a while. I love gift sets like this because you can try several travel size products without having to commit. This set includes: Beauty Elixir, Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet, Hand and Nail Cream, Lip Conditioner, and Gentle Cleansing Milk. The Beauty Elixir is sort of like a refreshing toner and it has a very herbal spa like scent. The first time I used it it sort of stung my face which was weird. I have used it a couple of times since and it has not done that again. Overall I don’t love it. The Moisturizing Sorbet is a very light moisturizer and it feels very nice. I surprisingly really like the Hand and Nail Cream -it  has a very light scent and feels great. The Lip Conditioner is a plain lip balm that provides intense moisture. The Gentle Cleansing Milk you apply to a dry face and then wash off – I like it! This was a good set to try out some key products, but I’m still hooked on Paula’s Choice skin care.

photo 1-81

Sephora Collection Dry Clean: Solid Brush Cleaner – I decided to get this because my Beauty Blender solid cleanser was running out and this looked fun because it comes with a little scrubby brush. This has argan oil in it and a warm Moroccan fragrance – I love how it smells! I tried using the brush on my Beauty Blender and it tore it up a little bit. From now on I will only use the pink brush on makeup brushes. The cleanser seemed to work well though and I like the case it comes in.

photo 2-79

Tocca Simone Deluxe Sample – I have never met a scent from Tocca I didn’t like so I knew I wanted to sample this one. The website describes it as: Sparkling notes of the tropical frangipani flower cut through the salt sea air, as Simone unfolds into creamy layers of watermelon, ylang ylang, and blonde woods. I really love this! It is light and fun and reminds me a little of Princess by Vera Wang.

Sephora Collection Eco Biodegradable Sharpener – I got this because I have an eyeshadow pencil that is pretty big. This fits it perfectly and I love that it comes with a little stick to clean it out. I recommend this because it works and it’s a great price.

photo 3-73

Unfortunately I was hoping for the sample to be as big as this mini bottle I got from Birchbox a while a go. I was a little disappointed in the size but at least it’s better than a tiny spray vial! Currently Sephora has a promotion to get a bag of fragrance samples using code BELOVED if you want to try out some new scents!

Beauty Haul

Hi everyone! Here’s a few beauty products I’m loving right now.

photo 1-44

I bought this fun Mirenesse set called Sydney, I Love You from Birchbox – it’s an exclusive. I’m a sucker for lip cream tints and I had heard from a friend that this was a good one. It is an amazing sample! Very creamy, with a bold color that really lasts. It didn’t dry out my lips and smelled awesome. This set comes in two other colors. This mascara also gets great reviews on Birchbox so I’ll get around to trying it sometime. It’s a great value set with a full size mascara and this size of lip rouge will last me a while.

photo 2-42 photo 3-39

I used a credit I had to get this set from the Secret Store – I love their Sea Salt spray! It isn’t available all the time on their site so I decided to stock up. It is paraben and sulfate free, is moisturizing, protects from sun damage, smells great and does not make my hair crunchy. It really adds a little volume to my hair when I sleep on it wet – helps to achieve that pretty wavy look. I recommend this over the famous Bumble and Bumble spray.

photo 5-31

OK who doesn’t love free samples from Sephora…no one!!! The First Aid Beauty cleanser I used my points to get along with the Bite High Pigment Pencil in Pomegranate. This lippy is amazing! I love the color, way it smells, feels and it stays on really well. I highly recommend you check it out. Any new beauty finds you’re loving lately?

Black Friday Beauty Haul – Sephora

I had been stalking the Sephora social media to see what their Black Friday deals would be. Finally on Pinterest I saw that there would be lots of sets for $10! I kept checking to see when they would post them, then at around 11:50 on Thanksgiving night they went live! I used some giftcards I had from Shopkick (an amazing app you should download) to snap up some deals.

photo 1-41

photo 2-40

If you read my last Black Friday post then you know I love TOCCA! These hand creams are a great travel size (worth $10). but the perfume rollerball is TINY – about the size of a quarter. That’s ok because I got my favorite fragrance – Giulietta! It is the most delicious and light green apple and pink tulip scent. I also got Stella – a blood orange and musk scent. All for $10!

photo 1-42

I LOVE Tarte so I got two! One for me and one for a friend. This has the Lights, Camera, Flashes mascara, Amazonian Clay blush, and LipSurgence Lip Gloss. The mascara is great, blush is gorgeous and the gloss is great too! Tastes like vanilla marshmallows instead of their usual peppermint lip scent.

photo 2-41

Pretty purple packaging as usual. This set was super popular and I think the first to sell out. All for $10 each!

photo 3-38

photo 5-30

This is a great Stila duo with their Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Black Amethyst. It is a very pretty black with purple undertones. There is also a Lip Glaze which I like.

photo 4-34

This is a Caviar hair care set from Alterna – a brand that Liz on My Subscription Addiction raves about for being paraben, sulfate and phalate free which is great for colored hair. I’ve only tried the Caviar CC Cream so far as a pre-blow dry leave in cream. I liked it and I think this is a great set to try out the brand.

photo 4-33

As always when ordering online you get 3 free samples – these great brands to try out.

photo 3-37

This was one of the weekly deals that you had to use a coupon code for – it is choked full of amazing samples!!! I’ve really enjoyed the primers by Benefit and Cover FX. Always look for the weekly deals when ordering from Sephora online.

Random Samples

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve tried out some different samples and products that I thought I would share with you.

photo 3-12

I got both of these sample from my brothers girlfriend who loves makeup as much as I do. The Urban Decay Perversion mascara is pretty good! It has a nice fluffy brush and really lengthens my lashes and comes off easily with makeup remover. The Dr. Brandt pores no more is a cult favorite product that I have seen a lot on Birchbox but have never tried before. It is similar to many other primers I have sampled in that it is sort of oily and I do not like the texture very much on my face. The exception is that is is colored but does not really tint the face. It does provide a smooth base for makeup.

photo 4-10

My brothers girlfriend loves this line of hair care! I also just found out my hair dresser carries the complete line. This small bottle of oil came with the bigger bottle she bought and she let me have it as a sample. It smells AMAZING! A little goes a long way on my wet hair after a shower and it makes it feel very smooth and moisturized. Maybe one day I will try out their shampoo or conditioner.

photo 1-14

This sample of Weleda skin food lotion I haven’t used yet but got for free from Target! They have a site just for samples – currently you can get a sample of Dial Acne Control Face Wash and Body Wash! Just enter your shipping info.

photo 2-22

A friend introduced me to this funky chocolate shop that makes artisinal dark chocolate. Dude, Sweet Chocolate has locations in Dallas and Fort Worth. All their chocolates are handmade in small batches. You can sample anything you want to in their shop! This Stag Party Fudge has Jim Beam whiskey in it and tasted amazing! My friend also likes their hot chocolate and chocolate salami.

photo 3-20

Anyone else have a Clarisonic Mia and love it? My Mema got me and the other ladies in my family one of these a couple of years ago for Christmas. I use it only once a week but it is very effective. Immediately my skin feels exfoliated, fresh and smooth. It works well with any mild cleanser – recently I’ve been using it with my Philosophy Purity face wash (also a Christmas gift from Mema – she knows I like skincare!).

photo 1-21photo 1-9

Have you ever tried Jamberry? Recently my sorority sister Lori, and some other people I know, have started selling it. It’s a direct sales company and you can buy the nail wraps from the website or from one of the consultants. The wraps on my nails I got as a free sample, then I ordered the stripes on the left. I particularly like to use them as accent nails. You find the wrap that matches the width of your nail, peel it off, heat it up with a hair dryer (or little heater they sell), put it on your nail and smooth out, trim off excess, then file in a downward direction to seal it. Since it was my first time I felt like I didn’t seal it very well, but they did stay on my nail very well. They say they can last up to 2 weeks. There is a wide range of patterns, styles and colors. I recommend them if you want a cool style, or nails that last longer than polish.

I tried my first Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment a couple of years ago and loved it! I got the Rose color, but they have a wide range of sheer gorgeous shades. These little sticks go on very smoothly, have a great scent, moisturize, have SPF 15, and have a beautiful color. Sounds great right? It is! I got this mini color, Petal, as a sample in a kit from Sephora a year ago. I just started using it regularly and fell in love with it. Right now at Sephora there are some amazing kits from Fresh with these lippies in them. These are fabulous for presents – keep one for yourself and gift the rest!

Hope you enjoyed my little review!
