Jouer Summer Matchbox

Jouer Matchbox is a quarterly subscription of curated products for your skin coloring. It’s $45 a box and a great value in my opinion. I get the cool box and really liked the picks for the summer.

photo 1-95

The box this month is different that last time – it’s even nicer! It is sturdy and velvet lined!

photo 2-92

I love that all the goodies are in boxes.

Every package comes with a really nice booklet detailing all the products and application tips.

photo 5-66

Mineral Powder Bronzer – This color Suntan is a matte honey bronze. It contains antioxidants and Vitamins C & E. I stopped wearing bronzer for a long time and recently took it up again for contouring. I’ll keep it as a backup if my other one ever runs out.

Tint Sample in Petal – I’m not a huge fan of cream formulas but this one is really nice and a subtle color of rosy pink. I would only wear it on my cheeks, not my lips.

photo 1-96

Everyday Effortless Mascara – I got the shade Brun which is a black brown – maybe it will be less harsh than normal black. This full size mascara look smaller than normal mascaras. I haven’t tried it out yet but I’m always happy to have a backstock of mascara.

Creme Eyeshadow in Organza – This is the product I was most excited about. This shimmering lavender taupe color is super wearable for everyday but very shimmery. It creases unless I wear a primer. I would love to try other colors of this.

photo 2-93

Lip Sheer SPF 15 in Tulum – This sheer cool pink is basically the same color as the last lip product in my Matchbox. The color is very bright and I can tell it has SPF in it. I would have loved to try a different color of this.

Overall I am still very happy with this subscription and will finish out the year with it to see what surprises I keep getting!

Birchbox Haul

Birchbox points and a coupon code were burning a hole in my online pocket so I made a haul and got a few good summer finds.

photo 2-90

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz – This is the product I tried out the weekend of my anniversary and I really like it! The taupe color matches my blonde brows well and fills out the sparse places making them look nice and full. The spooly brush helps make them look natural and groomed.

Nuxe Reve de Miel Facial Cleansing and Makeup Removing Gel – I love trying out new face washes! I also love one that can take all my makeup off which was why I picked out this two in one product. I’ve tried out this French brands moisturizer and liked it so I am excited to try this honey scented cleanser.

photo 3-82

The Beachy and Bright box is the featured box this month for July. When I picked out my lip color for sample choice I saw that buying this box for $10 was an option for subscribers. So glad I got the best of both worlds – now I will have every color of Stila Liquid Lipstick they are featuring this month! The box design is also super fun!

Supergoop! Anti-Aging City Sunscreen Serum SPF 30 – I actually got this a few years ago in a Sephora Sun Safety kit and haven’t used it much. Since I got it I’ve been using it everyday. It’s really great – I love the high SPF and the anti aging aspect. It is also a moisturizer and feels very nice on my skin. It’s also paraben and fragrance free!

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Bella – I’ve been using the color Beso ever since I got it as a sample and I really like. It’s a very intense color and really stays put! I love bright colors so these are perfect for me.

photo 3-83

Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray – Everyone is apparently obsessed with this brand and the scent of their products but they seem very overpriced to me. I haven’t used an aerosol wave spray before and this one is nice but I wasn’t wowed. I do like that it is a nice size sample though. It added a nice amount of wave and has a lot of good for you ingredients.

photo 1-94

Juara Enzyme Radiance Scrub – This product is currently out of stock so I guess it’s popular but for $38?! That is one overpriced face scrub. You’re supposed to leave it on for 5 mins but I really didn’t want to do that after my face was all wet. I just scrubbed and washed it off. It was ok but left a bit of residue. I like other scrubs by Aveeno and Vasanti better.

The Balm Cosmetics Balm Desert Blush/Bronzer – I like this deeper color, it actually works on me. It stays put and provides a really nice glow. As usual the packaging on this Balm product is super cute!

photo 1-93

This was my mystery sample pack and I freaked because it is the best one ever!!! I actually got this same cute little kit for Christmas and I believe it’s worth $25! My beauty blender is still going strong but I’m so happy to have a backup. I’ve used up the solid cleanser that it came up but I actually like the one I got from Sephora way more. It comes in a little case, has a great scent and makes my blender really clean. I also really love the Cynthia Rowley lip stains that Birchbox carries so much that I already swapped for this color. All in all this was a great haul!

2nd Anniversary Weekend

My husband and I recently celebrated our two year anniversary! I thought I would share a few pictures from the weekend featuring my beauty look and some fun Dallas places we visited.

photo 1-90

We started out the morning visiting a local coffee shop we had always passed by called Method: Caffenation and Fare. It’s a small place that has a hipster and serious coffee drinker vibe. I got a vanilla latte and Michael got a cappuccino. I love foam art, it makes the whole experience better. I thought my drink was pretty strong. They don’t have a lot of specialty drinks on the menu – just the basics. Overall not a place I would probably visit again because I just discovered White Rock Coffee (thanks Tess) and I am loving their sugary flavored concoctions and not serious vibe.

photo 5-61

We picked up some dounts to take with us to Method from Glazed – a great little place in Deep Ellum. They are open in the morning and again late at night to cater to the concert and club crowds. They have a rotating menu with different flavors each day that they list on a chalkboard. Michael tried red velvet and I got a cocnut mocha (tasted like a Mounds bar). Both we delicious and I recommend giving this place a try.

Later that day I went to Drybar at Northpark to get a blow out. If you’ve never been, they wash and style your hair – it’s great for weddings or a night out when you want to look extra special. You can drink champagne and watch movies while someone else does all the work. This time I chose the Mai Tai style which is beachy toussled waves. I love how it turned out! Their hair products also smell amazing. Going there is becoming an anniversary tradition!

I did my own makeup and used the MAKE Calypso palette with a pop of turquoise shadow on the lower lash line. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Whiz helped define my brows and I used Mac Lipstick in Syurp.

photo 3-79

We checked out Rise No. 1 (located in Inwood Village)on recommendation from my Mom – they specialize in souffles! I love french food and don’t come across souffles often so I was excited to try it out. I chose the ham and cheese souffle along with a house salad and Michael got the spicy sausage. We both split a key lime souffle for dessert. The atmosphere and food here were wonderful!

photo 5-62

Fresh whipped cream on the side!

photo 4-70

Next up we headed to Fair Park to see Cinderella. It was an amazing show and afterward we had mini cupcakes and saw some fireworks. It was a magical night!

photo 1-91

Just a little note about our anniversary presents. A friend let us know that Vans was doing a collaboration with Disney, and we knew we had to check it out. We went out that night to get some shoes!

photo 1-89

photo 2-86

So many adorable options for girls! No Cinderella though so I went with classic Minnie. Michael chose bright and colorful Mickey and friends.

I hope you enjoyed a look at our weekend!

Bath and Body Works Haul

Bath and Body Works recently had their big semi annual sale so of course I used a coupon to pick up some new summer scents. Here’s the haul!

photo 3-80

Their foaming soap is my favorite formula and I had never smelled any from this new collection yet. I read the descriptions and just decided to go for it! Thankfully I like all of these scents. Driftwood Surf is a blend of nectarine blossom, ocean driftwood and warm amber. Perfect Beach Day is blend of watery melon, young coconut and sparkling bergamot. Sunrise Sail is a blend of fresh orange, crushed cranberries and creamy vanilla. I think this is my favorite of the bunch! Seaside Sunset is a blend of dewy pear, peony petals and sun-kissed peach.

photo 4-71

Wallflowers are a great way to scent your home 24/7. When people walk into my apartment they always comment on how good it smells thanks to these little guys! I picked up Island Colada, Brilliant Citrus and Sunset Beach. Sunset Beach was my favorite candle last summer – it’s a great blend of pineapple, papaya and sugarcane.

photo 5-63

I picked up a green loofah because you can never have too many of these. I went off the reviews for this Mango Dragonfruit candle and it smells great! It’s very tropical and perfect for summer.

Did you get any great deals during the SAS? I’ve also heard talk on the blogosphere (thanks mom for the heads up) that the next candle collection coming out in early August is called Cork and Vine. Personally I’m excited for Sparkling Pear Riesling!

Walmart Summer Beauty Box

Happy Fourth of July to everyone! I’m spending the day working at Anthropologie then hanging with my family eating burgers and peach cobbler and watching fireworks. I love fireworks! I hope you have an amazing day celebrating this great nation!

The Walmart Beauty Box is a subscription that ships out seasonally. I never know when they’re going to come other than getting a shipping notification. The great thing is they’re only $5 – the bad thing is that this box was pretty terrible. I don’t think they’re doing a good job of showcasing exciting new products people want to go buy. Also this month I got a repeat…which is a no no in the sub box world. As usual I got the “younger” demographic box which there is still variations of.

photo 3-81

Nivea Soft Moisturizing Cream – This is for face and body and I like that it came in this little travel case. This is a nice normal lotion without a strong scent.

Clear Scalp & Hair Therapy Nourishing Anti-Dandruff Shampoo – I’ve tried this brand before and wasn’t wowed and I hate when shampoo samples don’t come with a conditioner. I can’t say I need anti-dandruff either.

St. Ives Blemish Control Apricot Scrub – This is a nice sized sample of a cult favorite face scrub. Even though I have a ton of face scrubs I’ll always take more!

photo 4-72

NYC Liquid Lipshine in Nude York – Usually I’m all for a full size lip gloss (even though I have way too many) but this nude color just does not appeal to me. I like a little more color! I’ll try and trade this.

Dove Go Fresh Body Wash in Mandarin and Tiare Flower – This is the exact same body wash I got in my last box! I think my third sample of this too, so I’m getting a little tired of Dove body wash. Not that I won’t use this of course but I think they could use a little more imagination on box picks.

Neutrogena Cool Dry Sport Sunscreen SFP 70 – I think it sad that the thing I’m most excited about is a sunscreen. Now that summer is here I can use all the SPF I can get my hands on (so can my husband) so this is a great little travel tube. This is a brand I would normally buy too.

photo 5-64

The box also included a sample of Jergens Natural Glow tanning lotion (gave it away in a swap as I like my skin the color it is already), coupons for Eco Tools brushes (don’t need any right now), and a sample of One Directions You & I Perfume (not pictured because I have already sampled it so I gave it to my friends little sister immediately). I appreciate these extras even though I won’t use any of them. Overall I think Walmart needs to step up it’s box game! For just $2 more the Target Beauty Box was amazing and full of products I would use. I have never gotten a nail polish in this box and I think that would be a great addition for the next one.

June Birchbox

The Birchbox them for June was adventure and as usual they had a updated box to match. I was pretty happy with this months selections. For only $10 I love getting to sample new brands and products! Sign up here if you’re interested.

There was lots of blue in my box this month! Very summery and fun.

photo 2-84

Temple Spa Good Hair Day Frequent Use Shampoo – This is for people who wash their hair often I guess? I shower every other day so maybe it would be good for me. I don’t like the scent however and have a lot of shampoo samples to use up so I will try to swap it.

Temple Spa In Good Condition Conditioner – This formula is supposed to hydrate, thicken, soften, detangle and protect from damage. It smells like mint which I really don’t like so it will be swapped also.

photo 3-77

Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner in Blue Lagoon – Every subscriber got one of these instead of the promised Eyeko liquid liner due to customs issues. I’m ok with this because I know things can go wrong. I don’t love this as much as I would have an extra Eyeko but this is a fun bright blue for summer. I used it recently and it really does stay put.

Pura Vida Lace Headband – This is a lifestyle extra and I will use it. It’s pretty cute for a summer look.

photo 4-68

Tocca Bianca Eau de Parfum – I love this brand so I am very happy I got so sample a new scent. I have the hand cream in this scent but it smells kind of different than the perfume. This a very light scent which is great for summer. This perfume has notes of lemon, green tea, sugar and rose for a clean and crisp scent.

Dr. Jart Dermaclear Micro Water – Cleansing waters are all the rage right now so this was my sample choice pick. This is my first time using one and I’m not sure if I like it compared to washing my face normally. It feels strange just to get everything off with this water and a cotton ball. It works pretty well to remove makeup though and does leave my face feeling clean. It’s sort of like a 3 in 1 because it also tones and moisturizes. I don’t think I would ever spend $32 on a cleanser though.

Overall it wasn’t a bad box even though I will be swapping the shampoo and conditioner. For next month the sample pick is the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in colors Beso, Venezia and Bella. I already have this in Beso so I know I love it! I’m choosing Venezia, a bright coral because I have nothing like it.
