April Julep Maven

Julep’s theme for April is the Paradise collection they brought in new lipstick colors and brow products!

photo 2-74

photo 1-75

I love being able to customize my box to get just what I want! In this case polish and lipstick only – no brow products because I already use one I like.

photo 3-68

Randi – pink plumeria creme, everyone needs a great hot pink in their collection and this one was calling my name!

Cassidy – bodi blue creme, I don’t usually like cremes so much but this one is very pretty!

photo 4-61

Angie – silver linear liquid holographic, this was an add on and the wonder Maven polish of the month. That means it’s named after a real person who was nominated by her friend. Very cool! I thought this holographic color was different than anything I have.

Blakely – purple and green molten, this was a surprise add on. I like this color but I feel like it is similar to one I already have so I’m trying to swap.

photo 5-52

Lip Gloss in Vivid – iridescent burgundy shimmer, this was my free surprise for choosing 3 add ons in my box. I have never used their lipgloss before and I’m not so sure about this color but I think I still want to try it out.

photo-96

Light on Your Lips Lipstick in Twirl – carnation pink creme, I like the formula of this lipstick and I think it’s a great color!

index

Light on Your Lips Lipstick in Girl Code – dragonfruit creme, what can I say I love pink lipstick so this was an add on. I seemed to have misplaced it since I got my box though. Sorry about that!

I thought this was a fun month with some great, bright colors! This will be my last Julep box for a while because I am overflowing with nail polish. Maybe after I take a break for a while I’ll miss it!

Jouer Le Matchbox 1

Jouer Le Matchbox is a new subscription service from the French inspired makeup brand Jouer. Jouer is available on Birchbox so I had sampled a few of their products before and many more are on my wishlist! Their packaging and colors are gorgeous so I thought I would give it a go. It is $45 quarterly. Also you can pick warm or cool shades to complement your skin tone. This is a review of the cool box.

photo 1-73

Right off the back the packaging is beautiful – light pink and gold box with a satin ribbon tie.

photo 2-72

First look inside – they include a small magazine highlighting all the products included and how to use this. This is much prettier than the typical product card so props to them!

photo 3-67

All products came in light pink boxes but I took them out for pictures.

photo 3-66

Travel Eyelash Curler – I don’t see this on the website, but it’s a nice addition. Personally I don’t curl my eyelashes much so this will be swapped.

Mini Perfume Oil Rollerball – This is a very floral and pretty scent of gardenia, honeysuckle and jasmine. I’m not used to a scent in an oil but I find it stays pretty well throughout the day. Sometimes it’s hard to get the oil out but I feel like a rollerball is smart. Glad I got to try this one.

photo 4-59

Daily Repair Treatment Oil – This product alone is worth more than the whole box! I don’t usually use face oils because my face is oily in the first place! This product sounds like a good one though: An advanced complexion oil formulated with Revinage™,a bioretinol complex that mimics the positive effects of a Retinol, without the harsh side effects. Rose Hip Oil delivers antioxidant protection, while Starflower Oil quenches and helps to rejuvenate the skin, providing optimal hydration benefits. The result is skin that appears smoother, firmer, and more resilient. I’ve used it several times and it has barely any scent and feels nice.

photo 5-51

Hydrating Lipstick in Whitney – I LOVE lipstick and this shade is gorgeous! Such a fun pop of pink. This formula is really moisturizing too – made with Brazil’s Cupuaçu Butter. This made me think it might not stay on well, but I was wrong! This lippie is a winner!

Creme Eyeshadow Crayon in Abstract – This is a very soft creamy shadow with a built in sharpener so it could work as a liner as well. This is a black that has a nice shimmer to it and would be good for a smoky eye (which I never do).

photo 1-74

Here they are swatched – the lipstick looks light but don’t be fooled!

photo 2-73

Mineral Powder Blush in Peony – WOW that’s PINK! How fun though. It matches really well with the lipstick. It reminds me of a blush I bought from Birchbox a while back – Stila Custom Color Blush. Both are a very cool vibrant pink. You gotta be careful about how much you put on!

Flat Kabuki Brush – I’m happy they included a brush as I don’t have a kabuki one yet. The bristles are very soft.

photo 4-60

Here’s the look I created using all the products! That pink lipstick is a favorite of mine now! What do you think of this box? Would you order one?

Birchbox Haul

Who loves to use up BB points and coupon codes?? This girl!!! Here’s my most recent haul.

photo 5-47

Harney & Sons Paris Flavored Black Tea – I had seen this brand with the pretty packaging before at places like Barnes & Noble but never tried it. This flavor sounded so interesting – a fruity black tea with vanilla and caramel flavors and a hint of citrus. I love tea and this hit the spot! It was different from anything I’ve tried before. I’m excited to try out some of their other flavors. On their website they sell several sampler sets – a great way to try out new flavors.

photo 4-54

Oribe Cult Classic Collection – This brand really is a cult classic on Birchbox!  This set includes a travel size of their signature shampoo and conditioner which is supposed to detangle and smooth. The Dry Texturizing Spray is both a dry shampoo and a texturizer to add volume. I’m excited to give this one a try – it has their signature scent and gets rave reviews.

photo 3-60

These products were in my mystery sample pack which if you spend $35 you can add to your cart for free! I love that Birchbox offers this, and this is by far the best pack I have gotten. I love this mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge and this color was actually next on my list to try! It has a great scent and provides long lasting beautiful color. I also got the benefit they’re Real Mascara which I have not tried yet, but I am very happy with a mascara sample!

Women’s “Thank You” Keychain - [Discontinued]

I also received this cute little leather key chain for being a subscriber for a year. I got an email to add it to my cart and it would be free. You can also buy it in the BB shop for $15. I love it on my key ring!

photo 2-65

This book was Birchbox’s book club pick of the month. I won it because I am a part of their group called Birchbloggers. It gets pretty good reviews on Amazon and aims to answer the question “how do we change our habits”? I can always use a little positive motivation so I’m looking forward to reading this.

Have you tried any of these products or had a good product haul lately?

Whole Foods Beauty Bag

Whole Foods recently released a one time purchase beauty bag. Whole Foods is known for their all natural and organic products so that’s what I was hoping for with this bag and I wasn’t disappointed! I really hope they release more of these in the future. Check your local store – there may be one left for $18.

photo 1-70

Rijigreen Beauty Bag – Each bag is different, with colored tassels and a liner made from a recycled sari. I searched through them till I found one I liked. They look like a great company that uses part of it’s profits for anti-human trafficking. I’m glad they chose these bags because they are very unique.

photo 2-69

They included a product card and a coupon for Biosil (which was not in the bag). I wish they had included coupons for the actual products in the bag – I would have used them!

photo 3-63

Acure Cell Stimulating Facial Mask – this mask is made with French green clay so you look a little like a monster with it on. It also has sea buckthorn oil and Moroccan argan stem cells to purifuy moisturize and renew. I’ve used it once and it felt very light and nice.

Giovanni 2chic Blackberry & Coconut Milk Ultra-Repair Shampoo – The only thing I didn’t like is that they didn’t include the matching conditioner! This stuff is awesome! The scent is amazing and lingers all day. This is for damaged, overprocessed hair. It’s a pretty big sample size and I have been consistently using it since I got the bag. Just this week I bought the shampoo and conditioner from Target because I love it that much.

photo 4-56

Pacifica Eye Shadow Duo – Some bags may have contained a lipstick (which I would have preferred) but it seems like only very limited stores got that variation. People have received this in their Ipsy bags before and I have read that this has very low pigmentation. The colors are “moonbeam” and “unicorn” and they are not my favorite so this will be swapped.

Derma E Microdermabrasion Scrub – This was a nice scrub with very fine dead sea salt and volcanic sand. It’s also free of all sorts of bad stuff like parabens and sulfates.

photo 5-49

Gabriel ZuZu Luxe Mascara – I haven’t tried this yet because I have many other mascaras to try out but this looks like a bigger than usual sample size.

Trilogy Vital Moisturizing Cream – I really like this! The brand is new to me and apparently pretty expensive because this sample is worth about $30. It is very light and absorbs quickly, containing rosehip seed oil, marula oil and orange flower. It provides hydration and smooths fine lines and wrinkles.

I really hope they come out with more bags because I really enjoyed this one! I tried some new games and found a couple things I really like!

Influenster Dessange VoxBox

Influenster is a very interesting website where you review products, link your social media sites and they might send you free things! They call their boxes Vox Boxes and they are completely random as to when you might get them. I was lucky enough to try out some new hair products that they will be carrying at Target.

photo 5-41

California Blonde Illuminating Shampoo and Conditioner – Here’s the product description: DESSANGE Paris introduces the California Blonde collection, a nourishing hair care system designed to moisturize and protect color treated blonde hair. Blonde is a fragile shade that can lose its luster, fade, and weaken with time, so it is important to protect your shade as soon as you color. The special formula, enriched with passion flower extract, delivers infallible shine and luminosity for a radiant blonde color. This brightening shampoo gently cleanses and nourishes hair to enhance shine, color radiance and softness.

I haven’t noticed a big change in the brightness or color of my hair but I like the way it smells and makes my hair feel. When I get my hair colored in the future I would probably buy this to protect my color.

California Blonde Brass Color Correcting Creme – This is a weekly in shower treatment that has blue pigments to neutralize brassiness and nourish. I haven’t had a chance to try this because 1) you have to leave it on for quite a while and 2) it says on the side to wear gloves as a precaution and I don’t have any and that makes me nervous. It actually gets really great reviews on the target website and no one mentioned wearing gloves so maybe I’ll give it a try.

Overall I was really happy to try out these products since I recently got my hair color treated!

“I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.”

Rocksbox

Rocksbox is a jewelry subscription service where you are essentially renting their jewelry. It is $19 a month but you can keep a box of jewelry for up to two months at a time. Or you can send back your box as often as you like to try out new pieces! You take a quiz and fill out a style profile for your stylist to match you with great pieces. You can also create a wishlist of potential items to get. My stylist chose 2 items from my wishlist for my first box. Here’s what I got! Also their packaging is gorgeous!

photo 1-68

photo 2-67

photo 3-61

photo 4-55

photo 2-68

They include a card detailing each item and how much it will cost you to keep it. All items you automatically get a small discount on. In addition to that you get $10 each month of shine spend to use one something in your box or the Rocksbox store – this does not roll over.

photo 5-48

Wanderlust + Co Orbit Gold Ring – I loved this piece so much I ended up keeping it! It is just the sort of dainty yet edgy everyday ring I have been looking for. I wear mostly gold tones so this fits right in. I have worn it many times since getting my box. This ring turns my finger green just a little bit after wearing it all day, but that is ok with me. I still love it.

photo 1-69

Gorjana Taner Ear Climbers – They sell this brand on Birchbox so I had heard of it before, and I had seen some trendy girls at work wearing this type of earring and I wanted to try it out. The earring does not dangle straight down but rather go up you earlobe horizontally for a very edgy yet subtle look. I have only worn them a couple of times (with my hair up) but have felt very cool in doing so. I almost decided to keep these too but ultimately will be sending them back.

photo 3-62

Perry Street Scarlett Necklace – This is actually by Rocksboxs’ private label brand. I think it is very pretty although I have only worn it once. It has turquoise, nave, white and crystal stones with a gold chain. Come to think of it Easter would have been a good time to wear it. It is a little dressy for everyday wear and reminds me of J. Crew pieces. As the most expensive item in the box I did not purchase it.

I really enjoyed this first month of Rocksbox and looking forward to see what I get next! I think this is a unique subscription service that lets you have the power to try new things and decide what to keep so you’re not stuck with something you don’t like. They also include a preprinted return slip that you put on the package they sent you to easily send it back when you want. You then rate each item so your stylist knows what to send you next. They have a wide range of designer fashion jewelry to pick from – I think there is something for everyone. If you would like to try your first month for free, use code ZARABFF5 when signing up!

Nail Polish Review

I decided to take advantage of a deal on the Zoya website and try out their polish. I have never used it before but I know they use the brand in some nail salons.

photo 1-67

Anaka – a vibrant purple-toned deep fuchsia-pink with reflective hot pink shimmer and gold microglitter. This is so pretty! Their formula is 5 free, goes on very smooth, and stayed put! I highly recommend this polish brand!

Zara – a vivid blue-toned light purple with strong golden duochrome shimmer. This was the main reason I bought from Zoya – I never thought I would find a polish with my name let alone a purple which is my favorite color! I am so happy to have this amazing polish in my collection.

Teigen – a full-coverage pink toned cranberry with a copper liquid metal. I love shimmer colors and Zoya has a lot of great ones to pick from!

photo 4-44 photo 5-38 photo 3-50

photo 2-66

Mini Charlotte – These minis were free with the deal I got. This is kind of a khaki creme color that I don’t totally love but that’s ok.

Mini Anais – This is a shimmery dark gray that I really like!

Mini Severine – This gold shimmer chrome is very pretty.

photo 1-56

I also got these Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure polishes from Influenster for completing a badge from one of their earlier boxes. I got the shades Trouble Maker, I Lilac You, and Strawberry Shields. The lavender shade is the only one still available on the website. I tired the purple and it is super dark on. Overall I like these polishes ok, but since they are supposed to be a base and top coat all in one they are pretty thick and kind of goopy.

Have you used either of these polish brands before?

Walmart Spring Beauty Box

The Walmart Beauty Box comes once a season and is only $5 to cover shipping. So it’s a great deal depending on what you get and if you like the items. I’ve always been pretty happy with my product samples. Here’s what I got in my spring box which is the “younger” version. When you sign up you put in your birthday and I believe they send out two box variations based on age. My mom gets the other box variation and isn’t always as happy with it. I was happy with mine though!

photo 1-65

photo 2-64

Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara – I love a full size mascara! It covers the cost of the entire box. Thanks to sub boxes I won’t have to buy mascara for the next 2 years!

photo 3-59

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Boosters Facial Cleanser – I like the Neutrogena brand and this is supposed to boost softness, evenness and radiance. I love trying out new face washes so I will definitely give this one a try.

Lady Gaga Fame Perfume – I don’t love Lady Gaga or perfume samples but this one surprisingly smells ok! It’s kind of a dark and complicated scent (duh the perfume is black) and has notes of belladonna, tiger orchidea, incense, apricot, saffron, and honey drops.

photo 4-53

Essence Ultime Omega Repair & Moisture Shampoo – This has luxurious pearl essence (whatever that is) and rich omega oil. It is fast drying and for damaged, depleted hair. It has sulfates which some people say is not good for color treated hair (which mine is) but what the heck, I’ll still give this a try.

Essence Ultime Omega Repair & Moisture Conditioner – I’m glad they included the matching conditioner to try out.

photo 5-46

Dove gofresh Nutrium Moisture in Mandarin and Tiare Flower Scent – This is a nice travel size with a fresh scent that I will definitely use.

photo 1-66

They also included 7 coupons  and three foil packets of products to try out. I’ll probably use at least one of these, but I wish one for Neutrogena had been included. I’m pretty happy with this box!

Swaps #2

This is a continued post about swaps I make on the site My Subscription Addiction. Sometimes I get samples I don’t think I’m going to use or polish colors I don’t love, so the best thing to do is try and swap! I thought you might be interested in what I was able to swap for!

Swap #6

Here’s what I swapped:

Au Naturale Cream Shadow White Quartz

41802.small

Here’s what I got:

Nuxe Masque Creme Fraiche de Beaute

42076.small

I feel like this was a great swap because this intensive moisturizer is worth $32 which is more than the eyeshadow. This has a very floral smell so I like to use it at night. It provides a good amount of moisture and is not too thick.

Swap #7

Here’s what I swapped:

The Balm Staniac

44218.small

MyChelle Advanced Argan Oil

44271.small

Julep Chantel

Holographic gold diamond glitter top coat

Here’s what I got:

Lollia AT Last No. 17 Perfumed Shower Gel

27502.small

Woo hoo full size shower gel from a great brand!!!!!!!

Swap #8

Here’s what I swapped:

Julep Peace

Sumita Beauty Champagne eye shadow penci

21272.small

GlamGlow Supermud

5028.small

Pur-lisse Pur Protect Essential Daily Moisturizer

31252.small

Happy to unload some of me and my mom’s Julep cast offs and happy to get: a great neutral shadow (only drawback is that it needs to be sharpened), an expensive mud mask sample, and a great moisturizer for my mom to try out.

Swap #9

Here’s what I swapped:

Microfiber Fuzzy Socks

Yes to Carrots Intense Hydration Night Cream

41768.small

Here’s what I got:

The One and Only by Emily Griffin hardcover

18464.small

I just finished reading this book and it was pretty good. I love that I can get books in swaps.

Swap #10

Here’s what I swapped:

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Maple Kiss

42218.small

Jergens BB Body

42317.small

Dermalogica Daily Microexfoliant

2407.small

Julep Blank Canvas Eye Primer

13622.small

Here’s what I got:

Buxom Sculpted Lash Mascara (full size)

1468.small

Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream

23160.small

Both of these items we for my mom to try. I feel like this was a pretty good swap because I got a full size mascara!

In conclusion you never know what you can get in swaps unless you try. It’s also easier than you think to get started! Have you ever swapped anything before?

March Julep Maven

Happy Easter everyone! I hope you get to spend time with your family and celebrate the glorious day that our Christ was risen! I’m heading to Houston to spend time with my in-laws.

Julep Maven March was the Pop! collection and they came out with the Light on Your Lips Lipsticks in several colors. I love lipstick so I knew I had to get one. There were a few other fun beauty products I decided to try out as add ons to use up my Jules (like points).

photo 1-59

photo 3-54

Lulu – wisteria mist soft focus (semi matte), this is a new finish for Julep so I wanted to try that but also I just love purple

Ali – hint of mint soft focus, a gorgeous light blue color for spring

 photo 4-48

Francis – Celery green creme, this was a mystery add on for me and unfortunately I do not like this color. It will be going to swap.

Lilou – lemon chiffon creme, this was a special gift Julep included for me picking 3 add ons. I was excited to see what they would include but I do not like this color either.

photo 2-58

Fluid Eye Glider – This is their version of a liquid liner with a felt tip pen. I like it and it works well! I got this as an add on.

CTRL + Z Eye Makeup Eraser – They marketed this as the perfect tool to go with the liquid liner to fix any mistakes. I had never seen something like this before so I wanted to try it out, and got is as an add on. It works, but leaves a slightly oily residue (could be because it contains jojoba and chamomile oils to soothe). The felt tip is also pretty grainy and uncomfortable to use on the eye. Not sure how much use I will get out of this.

photo 5-42

Light on Your Lips Lipstick in Happy Hour – I love this! It is a creamy magenta color that is slightly matte. I had to reapply throughout the day but it felt nice on the lips. The cap has a magnetic closure so it doesn’t accidentally open in your purse (which has happened to me before). I liked it so much I’m trying out two other colors in my April box.

They also included a little candy.

I bought a couple of items from the Secret Store which opens to Mavens around the first of the month.

photo 1-60

photo 2-59

Sawyer – copper patina molten, these two were part of a mystery duo. This is kind of an interesting color but I don’t love it.

Ryan – overcast teal satin, this is very pretty but I think I have a color similar to this.

photo 3-55

Liza – aquamarine for March, I love the iridescent blue shimmer! It is part of the birthstone collection and the polish I really wanted from the secret store. This also has a gold cap and the whole thing reminds me of Cinderella. It is a very gorgeous color.

If you are interested in getting some great polish and beauty products in a box that is completely customizable, you can sign up here! My boxes are $19,99 a month and totally worth it!
