January Julep Maven

photo 1-45

January’s theme was Metamorphic and I chose more makeup items than polish this month – I feel like I’m swimming in polish sometimes. Their Lip Luxe was the new product for this month but I didn’t choose it because I also have a ton of lipgloss and I prefer colored over a sheer tint.

photo 2-43

The little extra for this month was Junior Mints which I shared with my husband and there is a 30% off coupon which expires today so happy shopping!

photo 3-40

For the first time since I’ve been subscribed every subscriber that opted in through email got a free polish! These are new for this month and there were three colors of this metamorphic top coat. It’s very sheer and shimmery and they say it can go over any polish to change the effect. I love this perk!

photo 4-35

Plush Pout Lip Crayon – I got one of these a couple month’s ago and loved it! I customized my box to get Cardinal Red for when I want a bold look. I love how creamy, smooth and moisturizing these are. Also the vanilla smell is delicious.

Margit – Mushroom with rose shimmer, I just put this color on recently and I love it! It is a gorgeous gray with a subtle shimmer that sort of gives it a purpley look – different than any other color I have.

photo 2-44

Orbital Eyeshadow – Earthshine, tree bark with chrome pearlescence. I really liked the shadow from last month and wanted to try a neutral color – this one is very pretty. The packaging is still hard to open.

In a sneak peek for next month, every Maven is getting this beautiful glitter heart polish called Hartleigh! I’m hoping the trend of free polishes continues every month. My subscription was up for renewal this month and this is part of the reason why I stuck around. I also love that they come out with at least one new makeup item each month. Walmart Beauty Box

This is the second box I’ve gotten from Walmart for only $5 – it comes once a quarter. There are a couple different configurations based on your age group. I think the last box was a little better but this one still had some good products.

photo 2-34

This shampoo and conditioner by L’Oreal is called Oleo Therapy and is sulfate free which is great for color treated hair. It says intense nutrition for a silky feel which sounds great! These will be great for travel.

photo 3-32

I’ve seen this Jergens BB Body on a few beauty blogs this summer – I believe it was featured in Birchbox. It is supposed to even the tone of your body and I think has a slight tint to it which is weird to me. I decided to swap this. Usually I  am very excited about lip products like this lipstick from Maybelline, however the color of this one is just not for me so I swapped it too!

photo 4-28

It’s called Maple Kiss.

photo 5-26

I will never complain about getting makeup removing wipes like these from Olay because these are great for traveling!

photo 1-36

There were two small samples for Nivea body butter and Maybelline powder included. I’m looking forward to the next box!

Black Friday Beauty Haul – Sephora

I had been stalking the Sephora social media to see what their Black Friday deals would be. Finally on Pinterest I saw that there would be lots of sets for $10! I kept checking to see when they would post them, then at around 11:50 on Thanksgiving night they went live! I used some giftcards I had from Shopkick (an amazing app you should download) to snap up some deals.

If you read my last Black Friday post then you know I love TOCCA! These hand creams are a great travel size (worth $10). but the perfume rollerball is TINY – about the size of a quarter. That’s ok because I got my favorite fragrance – Giulietta! It is the most delicious and light green apple and pink tulip scent. I also got Stella – a blood orange and musk scent. All for $10!

photo 1-42

I LOVE Tarte so I got two! One for me and one for a friend. This has the Lights, Camera, Flashes mascara, Amazonian Clay blush, and LipSurgence Lip Gloss. The mascara is great, blush is gorgeous and the gloss is great too! Tastes like vanilla marshmallows instead of their usual peppermint lip scent.

photo 2-41

Pretty purple packaging as usual. This set was super popular and I think the first to sell out. All for $10 each!

This is a great Stila duo with their Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Black Amethyst. It is a very pretty black with purple undertones. There is also a Lip Glaze which I like.

photo 4-34

This is a Caviar hair care set from Alterna – a brand that Liz on My Subscription Addiction raves about for being paraben, sulfate and phalate free which is great for colored hair. I’ve only tried the Caviar CC Cream so far as a pre-blow dry leave in cream. I liked it and I think this is a great set to try out the brand.

photo 4-33

As always when ordering online you get 3 free samples – these great brands to try out.

photo 3-37

This was one of the weekly deals that you had to use a coupon code for – it is choked full of amazing samples!!! I’ve really enjoyed the primers by Benefit and Cover FX. Always look for the weekly deals when ordering from Sephora online.

December Birchbox

photo 1-43

December’s box was a bit of a mixed bag for me, but here’s a review of what I got.

photo 2-33

photo 3-31

Every subscriber got a coupon for Gap – I got my box a little late and it was only good for about a month so I didn’t get to use it. I think a coupon is a good idea though.

photo 1-34

RUSK Texture Spray – This is a fantastic sample size worth $7 and something I have been wanting to try. Unfortunately I do not love it. It has a very strong scent – very sweet kind of like coconuts, and pretty overwhelming. I feel like it was similar to hairspray and gave a decent amount of volume and hold.

photo 5-25

Dr. Jart + Black Label Detox BB Beauty Balm – This comes in one shade and it actually blends in pretty well. I also love that it has SPF, but the texture is not my favorite. There are other foundations that I like better.

Acure Organics Lip Lush – I got the shade date worthy which in the tube looks really get, but this goes on very sheer because it is made with argan oil. It’s great that it is organic but the texture, and taste are not my favorite.

photo 4-27

SeaRx Anti-Wrinkle Facial Lift Treatment Serum – This sounds like a glorified moisturizer with some good ingredients like hyaluonic acid and aloe. I feel like I don’t really need an anti-wrinkle product yet so I gave this to my Mom to try out.

Vasanti Kajal Extreme Intense Eye Pencil – I chose this rose gold liner as my sample choice and I’m slightly regretting it. I love metallics and rose gold in my jewelry but this just didn’t work as well on skin. I’m used to a dark liner so when I put this on it didn’t look like I had any liner on at all really. I’ll try it a couple more times though.

What I thought at first would be a great box ended up just being ok – thankfully January was much better. Stay tuned for that review!

Birchbox Vanity Affair Limited Edition Box

Happy New Year everyone! I hope God blesses you in this new year and gives you joy and peace. Thank you for reading my blog this past year and I hope you enjoy what I have in store for 2015.

There were a lot of great beauty deals on Black Friday and I definitely took advantage of them! Birchbox was offering 25% off and I had saved up a lot of points so I was ready to splurge!

I went with the Vanity Affair box which is packed full of GORGEOUS products! The packaging was equally beautiful!

Let’s get into the products! Look at all of that good stuff!

photo 5-28

By Terry Baume de Rose SPF 15 – This stuff is great! It has a pretty strong rose scent which I like and goes on very smooth and moisturizes. I like that it has SPF too! I won’t lie it’s pretty tiny though – about the size of a quarter. P.S. – the full size is $60 and sold out right now!!!

Chantecaille Luminous Gloss in Passionfruit – This is a little sticky but also moisturizing with a very sheer pink tint.

photo 1-39

Jin Soon Nail Laquer in Coquette and Nostalgia – These polishes are five free and the packaging looks fabulous. I’m not usually a red lover but this color is really pretty. I’m excited to try these high end polishes out. Birchbox put a beautiful tutorial on their blog that I would love to try out.

photo 2-38

Maison Caulieres Milky Bath Oil – This is a gorgeous bath oil with real flowers inside. It smells great and will be a very luxurious treat.

Serge Normant Dream Big Instant Volumizing Spray – I used this on second day wavy hair to give it some oomph and it worked without making it too sticky. It was a little tacky and added volume and smelled good. It feels more like a hairspray than a dry shampoo.

photo 3-35

Rosanna Alhambra Medium Vessel – This porcelain container is so pretty! It has a sort of 60’s Moroccan vibe to it that just pops. It has 24-karat gold details on it so I feel really fancy when I take a q-tip out of it! Perfect size for little bathroom knick knacks. It’s currently out of stock so I’m glad mine came in one piece – I had read that some people’s came broken.

photo 4-31

Shu Uemura Art of Hair Essence Absolue Oil-in Cream – I like this nourishing leave in treatment – it smells amazing and made my hair very smooth. At $45 it’s a splurge I won’t take though because there’s so many great hair products out there!

Sunday Riley Good Genes Treatment – This product is $105…WHAT?!? I would NEVER spend that much on a face product. It’s supposed to do a million things like brighten, even tone, hydrate and increase firmness. I wasn’t convinced so I looked it up on one of my favorite sites – Paula’s Choice Beautypedia. She said this is an average AHA product that exfoliates and reduces hyperpigmentation. All of the other claims are false and there is an overinflated price tag on it. It also has a weird sort of lemony smell to it.

photo 5-29

Tata Harper Volumizing Lip and Cheek Tint – I’ll be honest I haven’t tried this yet. I’m not big on cream blushes but I’ll give this a try soon! I like that the brand is natural and non toxic and from Colombia. UPDATE I’ve tried it and I’m not a fan on my cheeks or lips.

TOCCA eau de parfum, Margaux – I really like this brand – the packaging is always gorgeous and the scents are really intricate. It has top notes of blood orange then melts into florals. I like it and this mini bottle is so cute! It is a great, spicy fall scent.

photo 1-40

MAKE Calypso Palette – A full sized palette, awesome!!! The blue shades make me a little nervous though so I haven’t tried it out yet. I like the shimmer shade Alabaster in the top left corner. I would love to see a step by step guide on different looks with these shadows. I’m sure once I start using it I’ll love it.

photo 3-36

Stephanie Johnson Tinseltown Jewelry Tray – This is just what I need to help keep my dresser cleaner and to not loose earrings! It’s very lightweight and packable because the corners unsnap to let this lie flat. It is a great addition to the box.

photo 2-39

These samples by Obliphica Professional are my mystery sample pack. This brand is pricey and known for using superfruit seaberry so I’ll be trying these out.

That’s it for my Birchbox haul! I recommend stocking up your points and combining with a coupon code to get more pricey items like the Vanity Affair box or some of the other limited edition boxes.
