Plate Decor

Confession – I love to decorate with plates. When I was in college my then boyfriend, Michael, was so confused by it – he had never seen it before. Growing up in my house plates on the wall as well as on the table was very common. The women in my mom’s side of the family love to use plates in home decor – it’s a very southern thing to do. Here’s a couple pics of my plates around the apartment.

I’ve gotten all of these at Anthropologie, but a couple other places to look would be Urban Outfitters, World Market or an antique shop.  My owl and giraffe plate are actually still available here.

Here are a couple more I’m loving.

Florida Vacation

A few weeks ago I got to go on a summer vacation with my in laws to Ft. Walton Florida! It was my first vacation with them and my first roadtrip with my husband. On the way there we broke the long drive up into two days and spent the night in Baton Rouge, LA. We had dinner at a fantastic seafood joint called Parrain’s. We finally made it to the beach and the first night there we got this amazing pizza from a biker bar called Helen Back. I mean it was mouthwateringly good – so cheesy, greasy and had delicious sauce. The next day we spent some time at the beach. Here’s the view from our balcony:

I swam some, read my Coco Chanel book and relaxed. We went to this awesome Irish pub for a late lunch that day. It’s a crazy place with dollar bills hanging from the ceiling and on the walls. I had a traditional shepherd’s pie and it was great.

Michale’s family loves seeing movies so we saw two on vacation – the new Planet of the Apes and the Edge of Tomorrow. I really didn’t like Planet of the Apes and I didn’t like the first one. Apes are just not for me – they kind of freak me out. They were walking, talking, and killing humans and that just shouldn’t happen. Edge I however really liked. I for some reason really like that movie Pacific Rim that came out a couple years ago and this was kind of like that with a Groundhog  Day twist. I liked the storyline and it was overall entertaining. The second day at the beach it was super rainy most of the day. So we stayed inside and played Apples to Apples and then ventured out to antique shop. My husband and I love Disney so he was on the lookout for some vintage treasures. We actually found some cool things! I found this dress that I originally thought had a lemon print but which I now know are oranges. I also found a old picture of Zetas on bid day in Florida in the 1970’s – very cool!

The thing I really liked that Michael found is this Disney plate – because I LOVE to decorate with plates. He also found an old Mickey Mouse lamp that I am not the biggest fan of but he loves.  While we were out and about I snapped a picture of this funny Prom proposal.

Our last day at the beach was beautiful and we spent a good time there and got to fly kites. We also got to take some family pictures which turned out great.

Then it was time for our long drive back home – but we got to stop at the Duck Commander warehouse in Louisiana so that was fun. We did the whole drive in one day and were pretty exhausted. Overall I had a great time! I am thankful to have wonderful in laws that love me and want to spend time with me. Can’t wait to be back in sunny Florida for spring break at Disney World!

Bath and Body Works Haul

One of my favorite instagram accounts, loveforlushandcandles, posted an online coupon code glitch that allowed you to get a free candle – I think it was CANDLE20 but I doubt it still works. You just had to play around to get the right items in your cart to work with the code. So of course I took advantage of this…twice! Here’s what I got!

Pumpkin Cupcake – This is one of the new fall Pumpkin Cafe candles. On cold sniff it smells exactly like that it says – a super sweet buttercream cupcake with a pumpkin overtone. Can’t wait to burn this one in the fall!

Cinnamon Sugared Doughnut – This has been a really popular candle on Instagram and now I can smell why! It’s so delicious on cold sniff – super sweet cinnamon and sugar! Can’t wait to burn this too!

These are what I bought on my first order to get a free candle. The Apricot Mango foaming hand soap smells amazing! I tried it in the store and had to get some. The Watermelon Lemonade bulb is yummy – I have this scent in mini candles so I know how it smells. This was also a wildly popular scent that they have brought back in their new summer sips line.

Taste of Summer pocketbac sanitizer bundle – this was only $5 and I got a free candle! I’m not a huge fan of pocketbacs but I was so excited about the coupon code that I just added something cheap as quick as I could. I’ll definitely use them, especially the Apricot Mango!

Have you tried out any of these scents? Which fall candles are you excited to get? Pumpkin Sugared Doughnut also sounds amazing!

July Beauty Box Five

I subscribed to Beauty Box Five because I had a coupon code for a free box, not fully realizing that I was subscribing. It’s $12 a month or cheaper if you buy multiple months at a time. So I got the box and immediately sent an email to cancel because I didn’t think it was worth it. The box isn’t personalized and you don’t earn points like with Birchbox. Here’s what I got though.

Relvon Bold Lacquer Mascara – FULL SIZE $7.99 I’m always happy about a new mascara and a coupon for another!

HASK Argan Oil Intense Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment – $2.39 This is a deep conditioning hair mask that has two uses in the package. I’m excited to try it!

Nicka K New York Nail Color – Red Hot – FULL SIZE $4.99 I’m not sure this is the right color because the name isn’t on the bottle and there are two red choices on the website. Red is probably my least favorite color for painting my nails – I’m just not a classic color person. If this had been hot pink or purple I would have loved it. But since it’s red I will gift it to a friend!

H20 Plus Bath Aquatics Shampoo – $10.00 I’m surprised that this small bottle is worth that much, but ok. It’s funny because this is the brand Disney uses for their spa and bath and body products, so I’ve used this brand of shampoo before. It works pretty well – I’m just not super excited about it.

Body Drench Candy Licious Lips – $3.99 but I saw this online for $2.49 I got the flavor Lemon Drop which I’m sure smells fine but I’m just not too excited about this. I actually had a hard time finding it online – I guess it’s a drugstore product? I think I’ll gift it to a friend.

Overall it was a 3/5 win and more expensive than Birchbox. Just not worth it to me! What did you think of the products?

July Birchbox

Birchbox is the only subscription box I subscribe to currently and therefore my favorite! For July they partnered with Women’s Health for a power up challenge. They provided 12 tips to live a healthier life. BB is only $10 a month and you usually get 5-6 samples. The box was snazzed up this month!

Included was a one year subscription to Women’s Health magazine! If you don’t want the subscription you can return the card for a $9.99 check – that would cover the cost of the box!

Harvey Prince Hello Body Cream – I have sampled the fragrance from this brand before and it’s not my favorite – it’s too citrusy? Anyway just not for me, and this cream smells like like the perfume. Feels fine on my skin but still not my favorite. Also it’s extremely yellow meaning lots of dye!

Marcelle New·Age 8 in 1 Power Serum – I’m a fan of serums for night time because they feel a little greasy on the face. I haven’t tried this one yet so I can’t compare. This is supposed to reduce lines, tone, tighten, boost radiance, and smooth complexion. You are supposed to see results in two weeks and I think there’s enough in the tube for that.

100% Pure Gingerade Shower Gel (Honey Cream Wash) – I haven’t tried this yet but I love shower gels so I’m excited to see what it smells like! Small packets but I will get one use out of each. These were considered a “beauty extra” anyway.

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Eyeliner – I already have this eyeliner in violet so I know ti works well. Its very smooth, has staying power and a great color punch! So excited to test out this silver one!

RUFFIAN Dressing Room Nail Lacquer Remover Towelettes – This was an extra to go with the nail polish – I’ve never used a wipe before so I’m not sure how well they work.

RUFFIAN Nail Lacquer – Relic – This month subscribers got to pick a sample for the first time. We got to pick between 3 nail polish colors or 3 lip stain colors. I originally wanted (and thought I had reserved) this polish in Ambrosia, a metallic lavender. But a snafu ensued because the Birchbox website was crashing so I ended up with my second choice Relic which is a beautiful taupey silver. I was mildly disappointed and went ahead and ordered the purple one too! The formula is great and I can’t wait to try this color!

I’m happy with all my products this month! Two silver samples is a big win for me! What do you think of my samples or what did you get in your box? Leave a comment!

Julep Haul

Julep is a great website that mainly sells nail polish and nail care products. They have also branched out into makeup and body products. I actualluy discovered them through a box I bought on Birchbox. They have their own subscription box for $24.99 a month but I haven’t taken the plunge yet. I am more content just buying things when I feel like it. They do mystery boxes about once a month and it’s a good way to get a lot of product for a good price – especially if you’re not a subscriber like me. I got the Truth or Dare box with the Mint Condition Pedi Creme for $24.99 ($100 value).

Here’s what I got!

Mint Condition Pedi Creme – I didn’t have a foot creme and it got great reviews to I thought “why not”. It smells great and contains AHA which is a chemical exfoliant to get off dead skin (what I need!). I have used it twice already and my feet feel great and so smooth!

Doublestep Foot Treatment and Friction Stick – I actually already bought this a couple months ago when I was getting really bad blisters at work. It smells like mint and really works! It creates a barrier between your foot and the shoe. I’m glad I got an extra.

Buff Lip Scrub – Something else that I don’t have and probably needed. Haven’t used it yet but the pen applicator seems really easy to use.

UPDATE: I like it! Definitely worked in making my lips feel smooth and moisturized.

I love Julep’s polish formula so I was thrilled to see these! They smell slightly floral, are thick, go on smooth, and stay on for longer than other polishes in my opinion. They are also 5 free of toxins and not tested on animals. All important stuff.

Brenda – Classic With a Twist shimmery silver. I didn’t see this online, but it looks gorgeous!

Noelle – Boho glam sandy beach silk. A beautiful shimmery nude color.

Bergen – Classic With a Twist hazy blue-gray shimmer. A gorgeous blue!

Julep offers you add on’s at a reduced price once you’ve placed an order. So I picked up the Blank Canvas Mattifying Face Primer for $10 – a steal! I have trouble with oil on my face and don’t currently use a primer so I’m excited to try this.

UPDATE: I love this primer! It’s different than any other I’ve tried. Doesn’t make my face feel slick – it melts right into my skin. It also has a sort of citrusy smell. It really was mattifying too! I think it’s a winner!

I also used code POLISHPERK to add on Phia – It Girl alluring orchid iridescent chrome. Purple is my FAVORITE color and radiant orchid is the Pantone color of the year and this is a BEAUTIFUL shimmery color and it was FREE. So why not.

In a Pinch kit – This was another add on for only $15. It has some great products I have been wanting to try. Lately I’ve been a sucker for hand cream and I really wanted to try their Rock Star hand creme – it has a great floral smell! It also has their Oxygen Nail Treatment  which goes on sheer pink and strengthens and conditions nails. Some one step polish remover pads were also in the kit.

Sephora Haul

I recently bought some things from Sephora that I’ve been wanting to try. I used a code to get a free sample of Benefit’s new They’re Real Push-Up Liner and used my points to try Elizabeth and James’ fragrance Nirvana White. It’s a cute mini roller ball that smells very floral. I like it! Haven’t tried out the liner yet but I tested it in store and it is a gel formula that is super hard to get off.

I like to shop Sephora inside JCPenney because I can get my employee discount, but In like to shop online because you can get free samples! Sadly I can’t use my discount online though. These are the free samples I got that I’m excited to try out.

On to my actual purchases. I bought the Sephora Favorites Summer Crushes kit because it has a wide range of products in deluxe sample sizes. (It’s also on sale right now for $40).

It came in a reusable bag that I actually brought on my recent vacation and stuffed all my sunscreen inside. Here’s the products:

Caudalie Divine Oil – Caudalie is a brand I see featured on Birchbox a lot but have not actually gotten to try yet. A lot of the BB staffers like it. This oil can be used for face, body and hair. I have used it on my hair a couple times and I can say that it smells AMAZING! Even just rubbing a little on my hands releases a wonderful scent. A little goes a long way and it left the ends of my hair moisturized.

Vita Liberata pHenomenal 2-3 Week Tan Mousse in medium – I like my pale skin the way it is thank you very much and feel no need whatsoever to make my skin a color other than that which God gave me so I will not be using this product and will hopefully find a friend who wants it. It also came with a handy tanning mitt.

Lavanila Valilla Coconut Fragrance – This has a pretty strong fragrance but I like it. I wore it several times on vacation in Florida and felt very beachy. It’s a straight vanilla coconut smell.

Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray – This was one of the main reasons I bought this kit. I like sea salt sprays and Bumble and Bumble is a pretty famous brand that I have never tried before. I have been using Julep’s Sea Salt Texture Spray and I like that one a lot better. This spray did not have a nice scent and I didn’t feel like it did a lot for my hair and left it sticky. Can’t say I recommend it, and I’m glad I didn’t splurge on it!

Living Proof Restore Mask Treatment – I have a couple of products by Living Proof and they smell amazing and really work. It’s a relatively new brand founded by Jennifer Aniston. I have been wanting a hair mask for a while because my hair is SO LONG. I was hoping to get one through Birchbox this month, but no luck. I haven’t tried this one yet but I’m excited to.

Supergoop City Sunscreen Serum – This is another brand they push a lot on Birchbox and I recently got a sample of a different suncreen in a box. It smells amazing! Like lemons! I haven’t tried this yet but I’m hoping it smells the same.

Murad Essential C Sun Balm – I just realized this is the full size amount worth $25! (This kit is a great value) I haven’t really used a sun stick before and don’t like the idea so I haven’t tried this out yet. I’m not sure where to use it – on my face?

Shaveworks™ The Cool Fix™ – This is a gel to use to sooth razor bumps, in grown hairs and redness. I don’t usually have these problems but got a bit of a sunburn on vacation and used this like aloe and it worked the same. It has the gel consistency like aloe. It’s a nice sized sample and will be good to have on hand.

Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25 in Shea Butter & Vitamin E – This stuff feels kind of like Carmex and smells great! It was nice to use this on the beach to make sure my lips were protected. I had read online that this sample was very small – the tube is an ok size but there is hardly any product in it! Bummer.

DERMAdoctor® Shrinking Beauty™ – This is a super interesting product that is supposed to smooth, tone and firm skin. The suggest using it on your tummy, backside and thighs to get rid of cellulite. It also mentioned that you should still exercise to see results. I have used it twice and it’s hard to say if I see a difference.

Sephora Collection Color Hit Nail Polish – This was just an add on to get free shipping. It’s a light shimmery pink with gold flecks called “Cupcake Madness”.

It’s about time…

My husband has been telling me to start a blog for a while now, and I just shrug him off and say “maybe one day.” Well folks, that day is today. It’s not a momentous day – I’m just sitting on the couch, drinking coffee, watching the Bachelorette and waiting for my clothes to be done in the dryer, but it is a big day because this is a big step for me. I always thought blogs were sort of dumb and that nobody read them. That’s until I started becoming mildly obsessed with beauty and subscription boxes.

It all started when my husband Michael got me a year long subscription to Birchbox this past Christmas (with a lot of hinting from me). In case you’re behind the times, subscription boxes are super popular. The prices range from $10 to upwards of $100 for a usually monthly little present to show up on your doorstep. There are boxes for everything like food, pet toys, makeup, fashion, quirky lifestyle products…AND MORE! Once I discovered this wonderful world I was so intrigued – what are other people getting? What are the products? I then stumbled on this little gem of a blog called My Subscription Addiction that covers almost all the boxes out there. I was amazed! I read almost every post! The author Liz Cadman gets an average of 3 boxes a day. What does she do with all that STUFF?! Where does she put it?? Now I love her blog and have found several more that I read regularly.

From there my love of all things beauty started growing as I became more and more interested in subscription boxes. This blog is a manifestation of that and will talk about beauty, some fashion and my life. Follow along if you want to keep up with trends, know what I’m buying and doing. I never want it to seem like I’m bragging about what I buy but I myself find it so interesting to see what other people pick out that maybe you will too. I hope you enjoy this new adventure I’m starting!
